An Attack On Free Speech From Universities To Our Government

It is becoming an unfortunate commonplace in the USA to hear that Free Speech should be restricted if its only applied to a nebulous term of "Hate Speech" or other "offensive" speech.

Yet advocates or supporters of anti-free speech can't even agree on what defines hate speech.

An environment of anti-free speech where one can say some innocent statement can turn hateful the very next day is an invitation to true totalitarianism in this country.

Anybody sane enough would easily be dismissive or would call these claims as extreme or crazy, but unfortunately the assault on our free speech hits too close for comfort.

From our social media to our government and educational institutions we are seeing a constant barrage of attacks against our right to freely express ourselves.

The attacks on our rights to freely express ourselves is so blatantly obvious that even Mark Zuckerburg CEO of Meta and Instagram has come out and written a letter to apologize for suppressing free speech.

His apology was about the censorship he committed on behalf of the Biden Administration.

According to Zuckerberg, senior administration and White House officials "repeatedly pressured" his teams for months to suppress some COVID-19 stories and posts, including humor and satire, back in 2021."

This goes to show that our current government doesn't have our best interest in mind as it also pressured Meta to suppress critical information for voters back in the 2020 elections for political purposes.

As per what the MSN article continues to state: "The tech mogul went on to admit that Meta downplayed content about Hunter Biden and his laptop in the run-up to the 2020 election. He said that at the time, Meta received a tip from the FBI about potential Russian disinformation around President Biden's son and the Ukrainian firm Burisma."

After he was warned, Zuckerberg said his team temporarily suppressed a New York Post story alleging the Biden family corruption.

However, Zuckerberg also said that "it's since been made clear that the reporting was not Russian disinformation" and expressed regret over demoting it in the first place.

This recent admission not only exposes our government interfering with our rights and freedoms but also demonstrates the underlying symptom of a metaphorical disease festering culture of anti-free speech within some of our nation's top institutions of higher education.

The constant censorship and assaults on free speech is dynamic and always evolving.

The enemies of Free Speech didn't just come out of nowhere nor will they ever stop reflecting it from their root origins coming within our colleges and universities.

The origins of this culture of Anti-Free Speech have always been obvious, but since recent world events such as the Gaza-Israel conflict, the exposure of the enablers of censorship has been much more out in the open.

According to the Associated Press, the Freedom to Speak freely is now taking a new nefarious approach by twisting the definition of Free Speech.

The article says: "A new understanding of free speech has been evolving on college campuses for years, marked by the introduction of safe spaces, trigger warnings and a rise in disruptive protests that silence speakers with offensive views. But the Israel-Hamas war and its rhetoric appear to be widening the fault lines and pushing students to demand that university leaders take a side between clashing versions of free speech."

A now resigned Liz Magill President of the University of Pennsylvania, was forced to suppress free speech by taking sides while ignoring the Constitution. It's bad enough that censorship is being enabled but its far worse when enemies of Free Speech blatantly oppose the Constitution protecting our freedom to express ourselves.

As was said by Magill with Capitol Hill lawmakers, "She suggested rules rooted in the Constitution don’t do enough to protect students in a world with “signs of hate proliferating across our campus and our world in a way not seen in years.”

These attacks against the Constitution's Free speech protections were confirmed by Erwin Chemerinsky, a law scholar and dean of the law school at the University of California, Berkeley had suggested, "Yet on all sides of the issue, he says, today’s students want to quash speech they don’t like, regardless of its legality"

With all of these anti-free speech violations occurring within our own borders it is up to us as citizens of this country to uphold and defend our right to Free Speech whether its foreign or domestic.

It is much more dangerous when the enemies of Free Speech come from within our own borders, openly advocating against our Constitution.

We must be aware and recognize those who oppose our Constitutional rights to Free Speech.

Free Speech is one of the sacred gemstones that founded our Republic and one of the most crucial rights we currently enjoy.

Our founding fathers and Free Speech allies of the past have fought tooth and nail for it, so we cannot abandon their progress and leave their gains in vain.

We must do what it takes to counter the enemies of our beloved Constitution at any moment's notice for the sake of our country's existence and for our loved ones.
